About us

The sound of breaking waves on the beach, makes for relaxing contemplation while sitting in Casa Mango's outdoor kitchen. To the west, the sea. To the east the gardens. To the north, the palapa and bathhouse. To the south, the path that leads to the La Cachora beach, a 4 minute walk away. Imagine yourself listening to the birds and the sounds of horses in the distance, occasionally punctuated by the braying of a mule. Or, perhaps, you are sitting, listening to the voices of family and friends coming and going from the beach, or from the 13 minute walk to town. Either way, you feel at peace.

The Casita

Look Inside

The casita includes a comfortable bedroom, private bathroom, outdoor kitchen, with table and group seating. The casita has a palapa style roof, solid walls, windows that open on all sides to the breezes of the day. The kitchen is equipped for cooking, and, of course, restaurants and cafes as only a 15 - 20 minute walk away. Our typical morning ritual is fresh mango in yogurt, grinding our own coffee beans, and sitting at the table, reading the news of the world.

Casa Mango has been thoughtfully designed to be eco-friendly, simple yet elegant Baja California beach style. The property is filled with local plants, building materials, and retains the natural contours of the land. This allows the property to have an artist’s feel, where the sunlight, shadows, and blue sky all work together to create ever changing lights and colors.

Inside you'll find an office area, with good wifi reception, a double bed, with warm and comfortable bedding. Plenty of electical outlets to charge your tech, and cabinet space to stow away clothes and such. The bathroom, shower, and bathroom sink are all inside the Casita.

While the casita has walls, windows and doors, it is open air living. Every day we open all of the windows and doors, and let the warm Baja weather in. Because the roof of the casita is terra cotta tile, it let's the fresh air in, and keeps the weather out.

After the fire in 2022, Casa Mango was lovingly rebuilt on essentially the same footprint, preserving its soul while adding thoughtful updates like a small office bump-out, more electrical outlets, and an expanded outdoor kitchen area. The new design honors its original simplicity and charm while enhancing its functionality for modern living and connection.

The Palapa

The Palapa is an important part of this sanctuary of open-air living, a place where the Baja night breathes life into every moment. Its palm frond roof whispers softly with the breeze, mingling with the sounds of of the Pacific Ocean, and the sounds of birds, horses, and mules. This outdoor haven is perfectly situated—a step away from the convenience of the nearby bathroom and the refreshing outdoor shower, yet tucked close enough to the casita’s outdoor kitchen for ease, while still offering a sense of seclusion. Here, under the starlit sky, time slows, and the boundary between nature and comfort blurs, creating an inviting retreat where privacy meets connection, and the simple pleasures of outdoor living unfold.

In Baja’s dry and breezy climate, the palapa—a traditional structure made of woven palm fronds—offers shade and shelter, perfectly suited to a life where rain is rare and bugs are few. Before 1980, many in southern Baja lived comfortably beneath these open-air homes, enjoying the harmony of nature while protected from the sun’s intensity. We love our palapa, a timeless reminder that simple, well-crafted design can create a space where life and landscape beautifully intertwine.

The palapa offers two cozy double beds, each with warm bedding, a plush mattress topper, and protective bug nets, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. An overhead light provides ample illumination, and an outlet with extension cords adds convenience for charging devices or powering small appliances. With its natural airflow, the palapa stays at the same comfortable temperature as the surrounding air, making it often more inviting than the Casita, which retains heat into the evening and cools slower in the mornings; its concrete floor and proximity to the bathroom and shower add practicality to its charm.

The palapa at Casa Mango is the most practical and resilient structure, having weathered hurricanes, heavy rains, and even fires, standing strong through it all. Its beauty lies in its practical elegance, seamlessly blending durability and simplicity to create a timeless, functional shelter.

La Tierra (El Patio)

Casa Mango, Todos Santos, BCS will make more sense to you once you accept and understand that once you come through the gate you are in the outdoor living room. We think of Casa Mango as a big house without a roof or walls. We have two bedrooms that each have a small space and bathrooms and shower. Otherwise you are always outside.

Living outdoors connects you to the natural rhythms of the day, from sunrise to starlight, awakening your senses to the sounds, sights, and scents of the world around you. By wearing the right clothes for the temperature, you stay comfortable while enjoying simple pleasures like hot showers, morning tea, Casa Mango coffee, and refreshing iced smoothies during the heat of the day. This lifestyle fosters a harmonious balance, grounding you in the present moment while embracing the beauty and simplicity of life.

At Casa Mango, under the Tropic of Cancer where the sun passes almost directly overhead, the weather is a constant gift—warm breezes, golden light, and skies that shift seamlessly between azure and star-filled brilliance. It’s a place where “no bad days” or “no malo días” isn’t just a saying but a way of life, as the climate invites ease, adventure, and joy. The beauty of this tropical latitude is that every moment feels like an embrace of nature’s best, from sunrise swims to sunset strolls, with the perfect temperature day and night.

Evenings at Casa Mango are spent cozily gathered around the table, blankets draped over our laps or a small campfire crackling in the fire pit, sharing stories under the stars. By midday, the sun invites us to lounge in its warmth, only to retreat into the cool shade as the afternoon deepens, savoring the rhythm of each perfect day.

Hearth and Heart

The outdoor kitchen at Casa Mango is the undeniable heart and soul of the house, where the rhythms of the day naturally flow and everyone gathers to connect. Mornings tend to be quiet and personal, with each person making their own breakfast while savoring the peace of the early hours. Lunch often becomes a shared affair, with casual dishes that bring people together in the middle of the day, but dinner is when the kitchen truly comes alive—unless, of course, we decide to venture out on the town. The shared preparation of meals, from chopping fresh ingredients to cleaning up together, is infused with laughter, music, and meaningful conversation, making every evening a celebration of togetherness.

Beyond meals, the outdoor kitchen becomes a hub for deepening connections and sparking creativity. We share the costs of food and the joy of cooking, balancing simplicity with flavor, often whipping up light fare like tacos or popcorn. Around the kitchen table, books are read and discussed, ideas are exchanged, and board games or card games often make their appearance. The space encourages storytelling, where we reflect on personal journeys or passionately dive into brainstorming how to make the world a better place for everyone. With the refrigerator near the Palapa offering extra storage, the kitchen is always stocked and ready for whatever the day calls for, blending practicality with the warmth of shared experiences.

Life around the outdoor kitchen is intentionally simpler and slower, giving us the space to enjoy what really matters: good food, good company, and meaningful connection. Meals here aren’t just about eating—they’re about nurturing our web of support, one shared bite at a time. The kitchen reminds us that living simply doesn’t mean sacrificing joy; it’s about savoring the small, beautiful moments that make life rich and full.
